FAQ

Daily streak

Your daily streak encourages consistency, not dependency. Learning a language takes regular practice: even 5 minutes a day beats one long session every two weeks.

It is scientifically established that long-term memory consolidates better when study is spread over time, rather than crammed into a few intense sessions.

Explore by Theme

Studying related words — food, restaurant, water, to eat — can build stronger mental links than disconnected vocabulary.

Explore by Theme offers a different approach: grouping vocabulary by topic for more natural, contextual learning.

Statistics

Statistics are not for competing with others. They make progress visible — progress you might not notice day to day.

It is scientifically established that seeing your own progress increases motivation and makes it easier to keep going. Words learned, study time, and streaks can encourage you to return even when the goal feels far away.

Easy / Normal / Hard

During study you rate each word Easy, Normal, or Hard based on how well you remember it. This is an intuitive way to sort vocabulary and see what needs more review and what is already solid.

How it works: study with flashcards → rate each word → your word folders update automatically.

Word folders

Word folders are an intuitive way to pull up vocabulary by how well you know it — Hard, Normal, or Easy — so you can review what needs work without searching everything.

Folders are grouped by HSK level and, if you use themed packs, by topic too.

Trouble words

During study you can star any word that feels hard. Those words collect here so you can drill them in a focused session.

Use this list when you want a short, high-impact review of the vocabulary that trips you up most.

Why register?

Creating an account lets you connect and sync your study progress across multiple devices. Your flashcard ratings, sessions, streaks, and starred words stay linked to your profile on the HSKacer server, so you can pick up where you left off on another phone, tablet, or computer.

Registration will also unlock access to payment plans when they become available — subscriptions are tied to an account so your progress and benefits stay with you.

Trust & privacy

How HSKacer protects your data

Protecting your privacy and study progress is a priority for HSKacer. We design the service so your account and learning data stay under your control as much as possible.

Connections to the site use HTTPS. You can sign in with email and password or with Google. Passwords are handled by a dedicated authentication service — HSKacer does not store your password in plain text. Cloud study progress is linked to your account and protected by access controls so other users cannot read it.

We keep operational backup and restore procedures for the application database to reduce the risk of data loss if something goes wrong technically. That does not mean automatic daily backups for every user account as a published product feature.

Payments (when you subscribe) are processed by a secure payment provider. HSKacer does not store your card details on our servers.

HSKacer is built with established security and reliability practices. For how we process personal data and what rights you have, see the Privacy Policy.

Can I sign in with Google?

Yes. On login and register you can use Continue with Google. After Google, you return to HSKacer signed in. During Google’s screen you may see a technical domain such as a project subdomain ending in supabase.co — that is the authentication callback for HSKacer, not a different website trying to trick you.

What is 2FA and what if I lose my authenticator app?

Optional two-factor authentication is in Account. After you enable it (with a clear warning first), every new sign-in — password or Google — asks for the 6-digit code from your authenticator app. You can turn 2FA off only while already signed in (with a valid code). If you lose access to the authenticator account where you saved HSKacer, we cannot unlock your account for you.

What are “Recent sign-ins”?

In Account you can see recent devices that signed into your account. New devices may show an in-app notice. Email alerts for new devices are not available yet.

How do passwords work?

New passwords must be at least 10 characters. Use Forgot password on the login page to reset by email. After several failed login attempts, sign-in is temporarily locked on that device for a short time.

How does cancelling Pro work?

Cancel from the subscription page on HSKacer (not only from the payment portal). Within 7 days of the period start you get a full refund and Free access immediately; you cannot resubscribe until the next calendar month. After 7 days, Pro continues until the end of the paid period with no refund. Details are also in the Terms.

Where is my progress stored?

With an account, study progress syncs to the cloud linked to you. Guest progress and paused sessions stay only on that device. We do not offer end-to-end encryption of study data, and we do not claim automatic daily user backups as a product feature.
